The 18th Annual Magnolia Showdown is a barbecue cook-off and dance hosted by the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce at Unity Park on March 30 and 31. The cook-off is sanctioned by the International Barbecue Club of America and is the most popular cook-off in the region.
In addition to the traditional categories of beans, chicken, ribs and brisket, there will be a margarita division and for the first time ever, a dessert category!
On March 30, wild game meat and margaritas will be judged. The rest of the categories will be judged the following day, on March 31. The grand prize winner in each category will take home $2,000. Music will be performed by the Texas Road Cats in Unity Park. Barbecue sandwiches will be for sale during the performance.
"This is always a great event," MACC Barbecue Cook-Off Chair Gari Lynn Hessong states. "For the second year, the cook-off is at Unity Park. The facilities at the park- like the 75,000 square-foot pavilion and grounds-are so perfect for this event. Rain or shine, it’s always a good time. We encourage everyone to come out for a beautiful spring day and stay for the dance."
