Shoppers at some Palais Royals can clean out their closets to benefit a nonprofit that focuses on helping girls. The Tomball location of Palais Royal at 27714 Texas 249 is one of six stores in the Houston area to team up with thredUP, an online consignment store that sells gently used, trendy clothing. Following the popularity of the Netflix series hosted by organizer Marie Kondo, more people in the Houston area have been de-cluttering their homes and sending their extra clothing and housewares to thrift stores. Participating customers can go to Palais Royal to drop off gently used clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories at the store. Customers can also request a kit at the store or order one online on the thredUP website if they choose not to go into the store. The kit is a bag in which participants can pack the clothes they wish to donate. After customers send clothes in the kit, thredUP makes a donation to Girls Inc., a nonprofit that focuses on mentoring and advocating for girls’ health, education and life skills. For every donation kit received from Palais Royal’s customers, thredUP will make a $5 donation to Girls Inc.
